Positive Steps

Below you can see the guidelines and policies used at Moodia. They may not be perfect, but they can be easily changed as we learn more. Note: they’re in no particular order and you are encouraged to steal and adapt them!

  1. Change your light bulbs to low energy ones.
  2. Get your electricity from www.good-energy.co.uk
  3. Don’t print unless it’s important you do so. If you have to print, try to print both sides or even 2 pages per side.
  4. Recycle paper in the bin provided. Recycle cans and bottles in the bin provided.
  5. Cycle to and from the office and to client meetings. (About half of us cycle!)
  6. We’ve registered with the Mailing Preference service to help minimise the junk mail we receive.
  7. We’ve told Viking to stop sending us their massive brochures
  8. Only boil 300ml of water per cup when making hot drinks
  9. Walk up the stairs rather than use the lift
  10. Switch off machines if possible but certainly monitors each night. Automatically schedule you machine to shut down after backups. See http://www.winxptutor.com/schsd.htm for how to do this.
  11. Use “print preview” to make sure it looks right before printing
  12. Unplug phone chargers when not in use
  13. Use “draft quality” for printing when possible
  14. Specify a “bicycle courier” for sending packages across town
  15. Be green at home. Encourage friends, clients and suppliers to go green, steal our “green policy” and to share it with others.
  16. We pay all our staff £10 extra per month if they sign up to www.good-energy.co.uk. Good Energy is the only company whose electricity is 100% generated from renewable sources. The next best company is Ecotricity which generates approximately 17% of its electricity from renewable sources. We pay our staff extra because it is slightly more expensive than other suppliers.

We appreciate that changing behaviour is only a part of the solution and indeed addresses only part of the problem. However it is a part where we feel we can make a difference. We believe strongly in trying.
